Educational Philosophy and Core Objectives
The College of Communication at NCCU is committed to cultivating the next generation of communication professionals. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide students with a solid foundation in communication literacy, enabling them to stand out in a rapidly changing media landscape. At the core of our program, students learn to create meaningful narratives and make these stories resonate across various platforms. Throughout their learning journey, students gain rich hands-on experience and become proficient in using a wide range of tools and technologies, including text, images, photography, sound, music, video, and web-based media. Beyond professional skills, we place great emphasis on cultivating students' humanistic values and critical thinking abilities. We encourage students to look beyond the surface, to question existing assumptions, and to deeply understand the profound social, cultural, and ethical implications of communication in contemporary society.
Course Structure and Module Introduction
All non-major students are required to take six college-wide core courses, each worth three credits. These required courses establish a comprehensive foundation for students, covering key theories, contemporary issues, and practical applications in the field of communication. In addition to this core required courses, students can freely choose from a wide range of elective courses organized into three thematic modules.
Program Basics Module & Humanity Module guides students in exploring the cultural, philosophical, and ethical dimensions behind media and communication.
The Program Capacity Module provides foundational knowledge in professional fields such as journalism, advertising, and broadcasting.
The Integrated Module encourages interdisciplinary learning and real-world problem-solving through courses in data analysis and programming fundamentals. This modular curriculum structure allows students to tailor their personalized learning journey based on their unique interests, passions, and career goals, thereby gaining a truly comprehensive and transformative educational experience.
